Man Arrested On Meth Charge After Shoplifting
A Lawrenceburg man was arrested during the weekend after allegedly stealing from a store, items associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine.
Cody James Rogers, 26, of 305 College Avenue was booked through the Lawrence County Detention Center Sunday on charges of promotion of the manufacture of meth, shoplifting, and illegal possession of Schedule IV narcotics.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were first notified of the matter by the manager of the local Walgreens store.
She told officers that she had noticed a shopper acting in a suspicious manner. She said that eventually she took some lithium batteries from him and asked him to leave.
The manager was able to provide offices with a detailed description of both the man and his vehicle, along with a license plate number. Shortly afterwards officers spotted the suspect vehicle in the parking lot of Walmart on North Locust Avenue.
The officer reports that when the man noticed him, Rogers left in his vehicle, “Making numerous turns through rows, seeming to try to avoid me.”
A traffic stop was initiated along North Locust. The officer reports that when he approached Rogers he had three lithium batteries lying on his lap.
He told the officer that he had just purchased the batteries at Walmart, but was unable to provide a receipt or produce a store bag. He told the officer he had thrown them away prior to leaving Walmart.
Officers note that Rogers granted consent for a search, allowing them to check inside his vehicle.
They said that when they opened the driver’s door, they found clear, plastic tubing lying next to the seat. Later, he allegedly admitted he had stolen the batteries and tubing from Walmart.
In addition, Rogers was found to be in possession of two blue oval pills for which he had no prescription.
Rogers was transported to the detention center without incident. He is schedule for an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on May 3, 2013.
